If you’ve attempted to make some smoothie recipes, you’ll notice that it doesn’t always come out as advertised.

Because of this, I’ve compiled a short guide on how to consistently put together a smoothie the right way.

Let’s get right into it!

Tips

1. Place ingredients in the right order (unless stated otherwise)

Now this order will depend on whether you’re using a top or bottom filling blender. These all assume a top fed blender.

Start with the liquids, this will keep the blades lubricated thereby reducing the stress on it and allow the solids to keep moving.

Then place the greens, greens don’t weigh much, if they’re up top they won’t get blended properly, being at the bottom places weight on them.

Lastly; frozen things and solids (ice included). This ensures the fruits will be lubricated and their natural weight will push them down towards the blade.

2. Start blending on low power and ramp it up slowly.

If you start blending at full power, you end up with a worse texture than if you start slow and build up. This helps the flavors more evenly distribute.

Once blended, let it settle for a minute.

By leaving the smoothie to settle, the heavier parts that are flung to the top have time to slide into the mixture. The texture can come together as the ingredients absorb the liquids.

That’s it, with these simple steps you can always make a great smoothie, there’s no need to question the order of ingredients anymore.
