The story behind it

When you’re looking for a boost before a workout (especially on a hot day that can hurt your head), an ice coffee is amazing, but it’s hard to justify the sugar and calories.

Despite that, I still indulge in ice coffee when I get severe migraines. They tend to strike in the summer and I’d usually rather feel a bit better, and be able to workout with a few extra calories. Rather than skip a workout.

That dilema is resolved. With this smoothie you barely have 120 calories and most of them are nutritious, making this is a great shake to get a boost for your brain and muscles before hitting the gym.

Ingredients

2 Cups of Ice
3/4 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 Cup Cold Brewed Coffee (unsweetened)
1 Chopped Frozen Banana
1 Scoop of Protein Powder (Chocolate or Vanilla)

Nutrition facts

Why is it so good for you

Coffee is great for clearing your head and doing away with migraines and headaches. In fact, caffeine is a primary ingredient in most migraine and headache pills.

Banana has one of the two key ingredients your muscles need to develop, potassium, it also adds great texture, consistency and sweetness without sugar.

Almond Milk and protein powder give us the last two ingredients we need to balance out the flavor and give your muscles the protein they need.

So caffeine, potassium and protein. Bring them together and you’ll have a clear head for a workout. After the workout your body will take care of the brain with a post workout high.

Give it a try next time your head hurts before a workout!
